Exotic Companion Animal Medicine

Exotic companion animal patients seen at the Ryan Veterinary Hospital Penn Vet, Ryan Hospital, exotics, cockatooinclude pet birds, small mammals and reptiles. Healthy visits and referrals are welcome. The service includes the only ABVP-Avian boarded veterinarian in Philadelphia. During receiving days, both new and old patients are seen. The other days of the week are reserved for diagnostic procedures and surgery. The Exotic Companion Animal Service receives cases transferred from the Emergency Service daily. We provide wellness examinations on these non-traditional pets as well as specialized diagnostics and care.

Specialized diagnostics include advanced imaging studies such as ultrasonographic and echocardiologic examinations as well as computed tomography and MRI . Advanced surgical procedures are performed by the service or are done in conjunction with the Surgery Service.

We are proud to announce that we have two clinical trials for exotic pets, including a dual-phase CT contrast study for ferrets with insulinoma and a pain measurement study for lizards that have orthopedic disease. These trials provide free examinations and diagnostics if you pets qualify. Please see our client forms under the Resources tab below for details.
